About
Lexila is a dictionary of Czech word forms. For every word it shows all its forms, and for every form the word it comes from and its grammatical function. The site was founded in 2009; since 2026 it has been rewritten and is gradually being filled.
Methodology
Checked: the forms of every published entry have been compared with an authoritative source – the Internet Language Reference Book of the Czech Language Institute or the Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech, and for pronouns and numerals the academic grammar. Each entry states what it was checked against and when. For each form in a table you can see what it was checked against (shown on hover). Forms the source does not list but which follow from a checked form by a rule of grammar (participle genders, 1st person plural imperative) are given with that rule and its citation. Anything not yet verified is shown in grey. Unchecked entries are not published.
A source for every item: where sources differ or do not list a form, the entry names the source it is based on. Common Czech (non-standard) forms are included only with a cited source and always with the standard form.
Pronunciation and hyphenation are derived from rules; where the rules are not certain, they are not shown.
Scope: parts of speech are filled in complete groups, starting with the most searched words. Meanings, examples and articles are added selectively; they are editorial texts, and their English versions are not verified.
Automation helps us prepare and check the data, but a person always decides what is published.
Corrections: errors are corrected; each entry shows the date of its last change. You can report an error from any page.
Methodology last revised on 16 October 2026.

Privacy
We measure traffic without cookies: for each page view we store the page address, time, IP address, referring page, browser type and other technical details the browser sends with the request. A small script at the end of the page tells the server that the page was actually displayed – it stores nothing in the browser and only helps us tell people from robots. We need the records to run the site, to protect it against abuse and for statistics, and we do not share them with anyone. We have not yet set how long we keep them; once we do, we will state it here.
